A weekly post offering unhurried reflections on reading, stories, and the life shaped around them.

Book Review: Matilda 📚💜by Roald Dahl (Illustrated by Quentin Blake)
“The Trunchbull” is no match for Matilda! Matilda tells the story of a brilliant little girl who is far beyond her years. At just five-and-a-half, she’s solving advanced math problems and reading books well above her level. But while Matilda is extraordinary… Her world is far from perfect. She has two of the most self-centered parents imaginable, and then there’s the terrifying school principal, Miss Trunchbull—a former hammer-throwing champion who rules the school with fear.

Book Review: A Bonded Friendship 📚💜
A Bonded Friendship by Gretchel Hathaway is a work of historical fiction based on the true story of Eliphalet Nott, President of Union College, and Moses Viney—an escaped slave who later became Nott’s driver and confidant during the 1800s. The story reflects a documented relationship between these two men, while also incorporating fictional elements—especially in the life of Moses, his wife Anna, and their personal journey, where historical records are limited. Before the sto

Book Review: Henrietta & Eleanor: A Retelling of Jekyll and Hyde 🎧📚💜
First published in 1886, Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a powerful and unsettling exploration of the duality of human nature—good versus evil. In this Audible Original drama, the story is transported to modern-day London, where we meet Henrietta Jekyll and Eleanor Hyde. Book Review: The Billionaire’s Surprise Twins 📚💜
The Billionaire’s Surprise Twins was a book I discovered on one of the Play Store book apps—and let me just say, this one pulled me in right from the beginning. I couldn’t put it down. Even when I tried to step away for a bit… I found myself picking it right back up again. This story follows Claire and Sean Vanderbilt. After an unexpected brief encounter, Claire becomes pregnant with twins—and then she disappears. Sean spends years searching for her, unable to find her. And w

This Week's Reflection: Anna O. – A Psychological Thriller by Matthew Blake.
A book about a woman who never wakes up kept me awake until I finished the book. The description of this book was very intriguing to me. I found this book while saving another one to my library on Goodreads. Note: The name of the book also caught my attention, my mother's name was "Anna"!! This was the first time I read any books by this author, Matthew Blake, and I was not disappointed. By the way, the quote from Sylvia Plath at the beginning of the book seems appropriate—

This Week's Reflection
Three Days in June by Anne Tyler Gail, one of the main characters in this novel, is not a bad person! She is just complicated—and not even complicated in a bad way! First, I have to say this novel was AMAZING! I was hooked in the first chapter; dare I say, the first couple of pages. Yep! I dare say it… I WAS HOOKED IN THE FIRST COUPLE OF PAGES! Now that I have that out of my system… This was the first novel I’ve read by this author! (I am stretching myself and going outside

Who Was A. A. Milne?
Who Was A.A. Milne? by Sarah Fabiny I recently finished reading the Winnie‑the‑Pooh series. I’ve always loved Winnie‑the‑Pooh, but I realized that I had never actually read the original books—so I decided it was time. And I’m so glad I did. After finishing the series, I found myself wanting to know more about the author behind these beloved stories. A. A. Milne was actually born Alan Milne on January 18, 1882. This year marked 144 years since his birth, and this October mark

This Week's Reflection
A weekly reflection - my unhurried thoughts on a book, story or theme that stayed with me! What are your thoughts? Deacon King Kong — A Reflection I was pleasantly surprised by my first experience reading a novel by James McBride . I enjoyed it so much that it immediately left me eager to explore more of his work. This book evoked a wide range of emotions — from smiles and laughter to moments of deeper reflection. Even with a large cast of characters, McBride’s storytelling r
