Reading Has Always Been A Part of Me

I’ve always loved listening to stories and I was encouraged to use my imagination from the very beging.
Reading like everything else we grow and we put away our children’s books for youth bigs, then tweens, teens and so on.
However, reading children’s books as an adult is an amazing experience that a lot of us are msising out on.
It allows us to reconnect to a very stress free time (for most of us in life), where we could freely use our imagingation, escape into mystical worlds and it was acceptable.
I decided I wanted to write a children’s series loosely based on my grandson when he was a toddler.
Of course the adult side of me went immediately into thinking “do research” know What you are writing, who you are writing for and how you are going to write it.
The quickest way to do this was to read children’s books.
To my surprised, I quickly became engaged in the stores, reconnected with childhood favorites and discovered new ones with my grandson.
I found revisisng classics or my childhood favorites allowed me to see parts of the story that I might not have necessarily seen or fully appreciated in childhood.
I wa allowed to have a sense of peace, meaning nostalgia and simplicity after a busy or stressful day.
I learned something new about this literary journey I am on. I learned that even thugh I started this with research in mind, this will continue to be a practice with me.
I enjoy the “peaceful time out” from life.
I enjoy revisting a peace of my childhood.
I enjoy the time I have with my grandson as I introduce him to a story I enjoyed at his age AND he introduces me to a story he enjoys.
These are memories no one can take away.
I hope one day he looks back and when he see’s “Nate the Great”, he can say to his child/children, I use to read this with my Mimi with a smile and his heart warming.
My suggestion to you is to take time out not just for reading, but a visit in the past.
