My Encounter with the Partridge Family, Sort Of — James J. Caterino
I admit I picked this story because it had “The Partridge Family” in the title.
LOL!
While I was NOT a ’60s child, I grew up watching a lot of ’60s reruns!
I LOVED The Partridge Family!
Yep, this little Black girl from Florida was crazy about The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch!
I knew ALL the songs!
For those who might be critical, you have to remember that we didn’t have a lot of representation back then, so we watched what we had.
When I listened to this story and heard the excitement the author felt, I could relate.
Then the author said something about that being the happiest time of his life.
At first, I heard it as “THAT was the happiest time of my life.”
I immediately thought how sad it was that there weren’t other happy moments in his life. He was a child—young, very young—and my mind immediately went to Al Bundy, always looking back at his glory days.
LOL!
But when I started writing this review, I thought about it differently.
When we’re young—if we are lucky—we have freedom. It’s a simpler time. We feel safe. There are no adult responsibilities!
I’ll use myself as an example.
Watching ’60s reruns. Playing outside. Spraying myself and everybody else with the water hose. Running through the sprinklers. Singing LOUDLY and off-key with The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch. Pretending you’re Bruce Lee!
Yeah...
Those ARE happy days and happy times!
We are blessed not only to have had those moments, but to still be here to remember and talk about them.
What’s one of your favorite childhood memories?
Best,
Amy
