"Fanny Crosby (1820-1915): The Incredible Story of the Blind Hymn Writer" by Julie McDonald

I love reading books of all sizes—short stories, novellas, and, of course, great big novels!

Sometimes when I read a short story, I become so intrigued that I need additional information about the subject or topic of the book.

Julie McDonald has become one of my favorite authors this past year.

She does an AMAZING job of bringing incredible people from the past, from all walks of life, to life again through her stories.

While listening to the story of Fanny Crosby, I was AMAZED not only by what she accomplished throughout her life while being blind from infancy, but also by her entire outlook on life!

The part of the story that talked about how important her grandmother was in her life really touched me. I was very fortunate and blessed to have had wonderful grandparents—grandmothers and grandfathers.

God even blessed me to have my last grandmother with me until 2019.

I miss her terribly, but what a blessing it was to have a grandmother until I was 49 years old.

Then imagine my surprise when I discovered that THREE of my favorite hymns were written by Fanny Crosby:

“Blessed Assurance”

“Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior”

“Near the Cross”

I don't like to give spoilers, but Fanny Crosby wrote thousands of hymns during her lifetime and became known as the “Queen of Gospel Songwriters”!

The short story and my Google read were NOT enough for me. 😂

Now I'm looking at a couple of longer biographies about her because I want to know more.

And when I find them, you know what's coming...

BOOK REVIEWS!

Have you ever heard of Fanny Crosby?

If yes, what is YOUR favorite hymn written by her?

If not, do you have a favorite hymn?

Best,

Amy
